Let’s Hear From Andrew…

Andrew’s Health Information Journey

During COVID, Andrew started with e4health fresh from coding courses. He liked working in the HIM division and pursued his Bachelor’s in Health Information Administration and RHIA certification. His e4health career has included roles as an abstractor, eMPI clean-up, indexing and as a healthcare analyst. Andrew aspires to continue his education by achieving his MBA in healthcare management.

What made you decide to become a health information professional?

I started college thinking I would major in pre-med and realized that I didn’t like the clinical side and was more interested in the business and IT side of healthcare systems.  So that made me switch to getting my RHIA. During COVID, I bounced back and forth between warehouse jobs and decided it wasn’t for me. I decided to go back to school for a coding certification. I started with e4health in the HIM division. I completed my coding certification and RHIA degree.

What is something that made you feel proud during your health information management career?

I am proud every day being an HIM professional. I am most proud of achieving my RHIA certification. Making a difference for my employees, cleaning systems for clients, and helping to streamline the client’s efforts makes me proud.

Do you have a mentor or someone you look up to in the HIT world that supported or inspired you?

Renee Seisler is the biggest supporter. She brings a positive demeanor to each new project.  I also praise Todd Goughnour and Geoff Deck in allowing me to thrive as an HIM professional.

What does being a health information management professional mean to you?

Being a health information professional means being able to help people while not face-to-face, on the backend, still part of what makes healthcare systems work and making the healthcare world a better place overall.

What makes you excited about the future of health information management?

HIM is one of those things that is ever-growing. There is always new technology and new ways of doing things. Knowing there there will be new and exciting things ahead is inspiring.

Andrew and I met in late 2021, and he joined the organization in January 2022 to help with a large data abstraction project at Cape Fear. We had to move quickly on the project and had to add additional team members to ensure we were delivering. I remember knowing that Andrew would shine here from that conversation, but he has even exceeded those expectations. Andrew has been on a variety of projects through his tenure here and has been setting an example all the way. Andrew and his passion to the profession has recently been punctuated with him earning his HIM degree and RHIA credential just 2 months ago.
