Prone Transpsoas (PTP) Interbody Fusion
Per 3Q 2024 Coding Clinic:
Code Example
A patient presented for an L3-L4 anterior lumbar interbody fusion via lateral retroperitoneal transpsoas approach:
The patient was placed in the prone position in anticipation of a single-position prone transpsoas (PTP) surgery. An incision was made over the left flank, a finger was used to dissect into the retroperitoneal space, and the psoas muscle was identified. The disk space at L3-L4 was mapped out, and the diskectomy proceeded in a piecemeal fashion. Progressive trials were placed in the disk space, and appropriately sized grafts were selected. The implant was loaded with cellular allograft and inserted into the disk space.
